SCC Newsletter December 2018

Dear Swiss Centers Members, Partners and Friends,

In the past few months, the Swiss Centers had the pleasure of welcoming 5 new members into our cluster, namely EAO, Ceramaret, Intamin, CONDIS, Spineart.

Despite the tension and uncertainty between US and China, we are glad to have been witnessing the positive development of Swiss businesses in China. The growing Chinese market with strong demand of high-end and premium products, both in industrial application and consumer goods, offers great opportunities to the Swiss companies.

To cater for this demand, our new business center at Hongqiao CBD was officially kicked-off on Oct 12th, with the honorable presence of Mr. Ambassador, Jean-Jacque de Dardel. Since then, we have been working intensively on decoration and preparation. Today the office is ready for the member companies to move in.  We are very happy to end the year with this milestone, and look forward to an exciting new year of 2019 with all of you.

Thank you, our members, partners and friends, for your continued trust and support. We wish you all a good festival season, and happy to continue to support your business success in the new year!

Free Trade Zone

Since its grand opening in 2014, the Swiss Center in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone has witnessed Swiss SME members grow their businesses beyond the Swiss Center premise.

Dec China and Integra Biosciences are two such examples. The two members have outgrown their space at the Center and relocated this year to new places where they occupy hundreds of square meters office and showroom space.

The moves are a positive sign that Swiss companies are scaling up operations.

Check out the available space at the Center click here.

Xinzhuang Industrial Park

RAHN China is another company who has outgrown its space at the Swiss Center in the Xinzhuang Industrial Park.

The Swiss chemical company set up its office there in 2011. After 7 years’ development, it has now invested in a new location which will allow the company to establish both the office and a chemical lab. The new space 5.7 times as large as their former one will give RAHN the opportunity to accommodate its growing energy curing & cosmetics business in China.

“Swiss Center has been very supportive of our growth,” says Yue Zou, General Manager of RAHN China, “When we as a SME start business in China, it has served us well.”

2019 Swiss Business in China Survey

Swiss Centers China is launching the 2019 China Business Survey, developed in collaboration with the Swiss Embassy, Switzerland Global Enterprise, SwissCham, swissnex, China Integrated and the China Europe International Business School, the premier Business School in Asia for Executive education.

It is the international business survey collecting by far the largest number of replies in China and the only one that includes and compares with the opinion of managers of Chinese companies and allows an analysis of Chinese and foreign SMEs in China.

Last year’s CEIBS survey received replies from close to 1000 companies, among which there were over 100 decision makers from Swiss enterprises.  The survey is believed to be representative of the approximately 600 Swiss companies that have established operations in China.

The 2018 survey showed continued growth and good results; still for the first time Swiss companies were less optimistic for the long term. Read the 2018 survey to understand the challenges and opportunities for improvement identified as well as how Swiss companies are competing for success in China.
